Alif

Du wirst überrascht sein, was du kannst!“

Echo-Narziss Workshop „Concrete Poetry“ (English version)

This isn’t just poetry to hear – you need to see it too!
text + image seem like a natural pairing. Why not give it a try?

The Program aims at enrich school programs in the area with a very specialized program and  by inviting artists into classrooms with children of immigration background specially from the Middle East.  We help the students to create their own concrete poems and zoo-graphical figures by the use of different superpositions of alphabets (Roman, Arabic, Chineese, whatever,…) These alphabets are supposed to be the children’s visual tools and means (rolls and bolts) in creating their own zoographic paintings. We believe that workshops of this kind will provide the children a very essential and reliable substrative basis of a long-term integration with western values and cultures and vice versa.

Concrete poetry are poems whose meaning is conveyed partly or wholly by some visual means.

How it goes:
Each of the students will receive a few of black and white alphabets. They’ll be free to do with them what they want, adding words, images, color and who knows what else. At the end we would have a complete zoo as well as aliens and ….made of alphabets.  All of the poems will be bound together in a book. It is for them to take home after publishing as their first encounter as an artist or writer in a professional project.
Preparing for this workshop will lead your children to so many new ideas from which we can learn a lot!
We can’t wait to see what they do!
