Nūn

Nūn (ن) i the 14th letter of the Semitic as well a Arabic alphabets. In Nūn project i aimed to transliterate the German proverbs into Arabic letters and calligraphy. For intabce, the following figure is an Arabic transliteration of the ironic German expression ‘Hasch mich ich bin der Früling’ :“catch me! I am the spring!”(Emailpour G., Iradj: Toolkit):

Works of this kind will reveal the formalism of the Islamic art: The form similes the calligraphic rules as a sacred Islamic art but the content is completely secular. The following artworks done by Farzaneh Rostami, a well-known Iranian master of Calligraphy, are also aimed to stage the pure formalism behind the venerated art of calligraphy. On the next level these abstract forms may be mixed with a set of concrete objects to fuse the ‘Word’ into ‘Flesh’.

Hasch mich ich bin der Früling

 Wieder auf die Beine kommen

Dienst ist Dienst und Schnaps ist Schnaps

Einmal ist keinmal

  Durch Dick und Dünn gehen!

Den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht sehen!

Da Eisen schmieden, solange es heiß ist!
